Lets get to know our Protection Athletes
WE ASKED THE GUYS IF THEY COULD GIVE US A LITTLE INSIGHT INTO WHO THEY ARE.
HERE'S WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY.......
Joel is our veteran protection clown, he has been clowning at Weipa Bullride for 9 years.
Ingham is Joel's hometown. When we asked Joel what it was that got him interested in becoming a protection clown, his answer was quick, "The love of the sport". Joel has been bullfighting for 13 years.
Some of his greatest achievements include ...
-NQ Bullriding Series 'Clown of The Year' 2009, 2010 & 2011.
- 10 years as an ABCRA Open Protection Clown. - Making it into the ABCRA 'Clown of The Year' finals twice.
But his greatest achievement would have to be his family, consisting of his beautiful wife Kendall and their three children.
In his spare time, Joel enjoys.... footy, cricket, pig hunting, bullfighting, fishing & family time.
Joel's motto in life is simple....
Teddy is a Mareeba boy and would have to have the most experience on the top of a bull out of our protection clowns. As soon as Teddy retired from bull riding, he put his experience to good use and became a protection clown. He says, "I wanted to help out my mates, have a bit of fun and help out the young riders, who are the future of our sport of rodeo".
Being a bullrider and then a protection clown, Ted has an impressive list of achievements, but his most memorable are...
- Winning the ABCRA North QLD Zone 'Bullrider' & 'Protection Clown' titles.
- Becoming the first protection clown from FNQ to clown at the ABCRA National Finals on two occasions.
But when you ask him what he is most proud of, it's watching his two kids excel in their rodeo events and travelling the country side to support them to fulfil their dreams.
If you can't tell, Teddy's life is surrounded by rodeo, so its not surprising when asked about his hobbies, his answer, "Rodeo, Rodeo, Rodeo".
Is it any wonder his favourite saying is....
'Livin' the Dream!'
Teddy has now retired from Bull Fighting. We are all extremely sad to see Teddy go this year. We wish him all the best on his next adventure and Thank him for all he has done for not only the Weipa Bull Ride, but for the sport in general! Best Wishes Teddy!
Unfortunately Kerry is unable to make it this year due to injury, we wish you a speedy recovery and hope to have you back next year.
